Labanan ng BOYBANDS!

Trapped in a “nagpapanggap na city” for most of my life these days, with a television that only has 2 channels, my knowledge of POP music has been very limited. My source of new music is mostly online and “musical-variety shows” on Sundays. I am unable to watch Sunday shows on a regular basis and I tend to listen to my trusted playlists of songs that are not so current. So to say that I’m updated with the new songs out there would be a lie.

For example, I have heard of ONE DIRECTION, I dunno how perhaps a random article I’ve read online but I knew of them. That they are a British boy group. At one time over the summer, I heard that my nephews (4 and 2 yrs old) adore One Direction and a few of their songs. I found it cute that they liked a “British boy band” but my nephew insisted they were AMERICANS. And since they probably are more updated, I actually believed the babyboys – that I was wrong,that they were Americans.

I go on a 4-day leave in the metropolis and finally had access to proper music channels (hurray for MTV SEA) and I Finally “met” ONE DIRECTION! Naku bebiboys pala ang mga itech! How old are they 13? They look so young. I realized I have heard one of their songs before but didn’t know it was a “One Direction” song. I told my other sister that I finally know them and told her that I really thought they were from the UK. She says “YES!” And I defensively answered that our nephew told me they were Americans. (Dahil RELIABLE SOURCE talaga ang 4-taong gulang kong pamangkin?! hahaha). But no, TITA is still correct. They were indeed British and placed third in UK’s X-Factor.

But I am a 90s kid! So while I think they are cute and the lyrics and harmony are catchy. Nothing beats the ULTIMATE JOLOGS BOYBAND of MY GENERATION! Funny how they first became big in Europe and Canada, not in America where they are all from. And then I believe ONE DIRECTION is bigger in America when they are British. Oh MUSIC!
